What is a domain name, exactly?

A domain name is the address of your business on the internet — like yourcompany.com or yourcompany.in. When someone types it in a browser, the internet routes them to your website. You also use it for email (you@yourcompany.com), invoices, and trust. It's arguably the most permanent piece of your business identity.

Why does it matter where I buy it?

The big registrars use domains as the bait — ₹199 today, ₹2,400 next year. By then you've printed a thousand business cards and you're stuck. We pass our actual registrar cost to you and add a flat ₹99 platform fee. Your price won't double after signup.

What's the difference between .com and .in?

.com is the global default — good for businesses serving customers anywhere. .in is India's country-code domain, run by NIXI — strong signal that you're an Indian business and slightly cheaper. Many Indian SMBs own both (yourcompany.com + yourcompany.in) and forward one to the other. We can help you set that up.

What does WHOIS privacy mean and do I need it?

Every registered domain is in a public database called WHOIS — by default, it shows your name, email, and address. Spammers scrape this. WHOIS privacy hides your details behind the registrar's contact info. Most registrars charge ₹500-₹1,500 per year for it. We include it free, on every domain. You should always have it on.

Can I move my domain over from somewhere else?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Send us your domain's authorisation code (also called transfer code or EPP code) — your current registrar will give you this on request. We do the rest: registry transfer, DNS preserved, free year added to your renewal date. Your email and website stay live the entire time. Email migrate@thecloud.market.

Why is there an ICANN fee on .com / .net / .org?

ICANN is the global non-profit that coordinates internet domains. Every gTLD (.com, .net, .org, etc.) charges a small fee to ICANN per year — currently ₹18. Every legitimate registrar pays this; we just show it on your receipt instead of hiding it. Indian ccTLDs like .in and .co.in don't — those are run by NIXI in Bharat, not ICANN.
